Lake Junaluska NC is only a few miles northeast of both Maggie Valley and Waynesville, and is home to the Lake Junaluska Assembly, the conference center for the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church. It is a quiet community of private homes, vacation rentals, conference facilities, bed and breakfasts and lodges that ring a serene lake, surrounded by mountains. Great Smoky Mountains National Park -  Ridge upon ridge of endless forest Carolina and Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World renowned for the diversity of its plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America's most visited national park.  
The Blue Ridge Parkway  - At 469 miles long the Parkway is the nation's longest scenic rural parkway. Now over 75 years old it is administered  by the  National Park Service and host to  approximately 20 million visits annually. It connects the Shenandoah Valley National Park with the Great Smokey Mountains National park in North Carolina and Tennessee. Along the route are opportunities for lodging, dining, camping, hiking and simply enjoying breathtaking views from easily accessible overlooks and picnic areas.

The final milepost of the Parkway is located in this area:
469.1: Junction Parkway and US 441. 2 miles south to Cherokee, 29 miles north to Gatlinburg. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located equally in North Carolina and Tennessee. The Park’s 507,168 acres may viewed from paved roads and many wilderness trails. Information bulletin board. Oconaluftee Visitor Center near Parkway & US 441.

431.0: Haywood-Jackson Overlook. 1 1/2 mile selfguided loop trail, of moderate difficulty, to summit of Richland Balsam.
431.4:Richland Balsam Overlook. Highest point on Blue Ridge Parkway motor road. Alt. 6,047.
443.1: Balsam Gap. US 74-23 Crossover. East 7 mi. to Waynesville, west 12 mi. to Sylva.
451.2: Waterrock Knob Parking Overlook. Visitor Information Center, Comfort Station. 4-State view including fine panorama of the Great Smoky Mountains. Trail, with pedestrian overlooks, to the Knob.
455.7: Soco Gap, US 19 Crossover. 12 miles west to Cherokee, 5 miles east to Maggie Valley.
458.2: Heintooga Ridge Rd. Spur to Mile High Overlook. 12 miles to Great Smoky Mtns. National Park Campground.
461.9: Big Witch Overlook
