Brevard Music Center - Each summer more than 400 students, ages 14
through post-college, join professional musicians to
eat, breathe and sleep music for seven weeks. In addition to a
rigorous schedule of instruction, students collaborate with faculty
and guest artists in more than eighty public performances. |
Dupont State Forest One of
North
Carolina's newer parks Dupont offers more than 10,000 acres of
forest,
trails, and 10 waterfalls and is located between
Hendersonville and Brevard North Carolina. You can enjoy the
trails by foot, bike or horse or bring the fishing gear
or picnic basket. |
The Cradle of Forestry of America - The Cradle is a place of people, nature, history
and the future. The story of the birth of
forestry in America is told through
exhibits at the Forestry Discovery
Center, the Biltmore Campus trail and
the Forest Festival Trail. There are
nature programs and special events
throughout the year for all ages. |
Looking Glass Falls - One of the
most well known and often-visited of
Transylvania county's falls is Looking Glass, a
handicapped-accessible 60-foot cascade located
next to U.S. 276. The name "Looking Glass" comes
from Looking Glass Rock, where water freezes on
its sides in the winter and then glistens in the
sunlight like a mirror or looking glass. The
falls are 60 feet tall and the area is
especially beautiful during the fall season. |
The Heart of Brevard
- The city's Main Street Program -
is a testament to the fact that this mountain
community works together to keep its downtown
revitalized and energized. When the program
began in 1993, there were thirteen vacant
buildings downtown. Today, the Heart of Brevard
is filled with active businesses and
professional offices; it is clean and green,
with lush trees and flowers flourishing on the
downtown streets |
Transylvania Heritage Museum
In 1986, hundreds of people signed a petition
encouraging the formation of a county museum.
The Jim Bob Tinsley Museum, a non-profit
organization, was opened in May 1994 in Brevard,
NC. In 2003 the Transylvania Heritage Coalition
(THC) was formed. The THM opened in May 2008. It
now houses temporary and permanent displays of
heirlooms, artifacts, genealogical exhibits,
vintage photographs, and other exhibits
reflective of the history and heritage of the
county. |

Number
7 Arts - A Fine Arts and Crafts Cooperative, is an outreach
program of the Transylvania County Arts
Council. Artist members represent a
VARIETY OF MEDIA and the
strong cultural heritage of Western North Carolina. |
Drew-Dean Gallery - Housed in what used to be the
Brevard Fire Station in 1926, the recently remodeled space at 114 West
Main has unveiled itself as one of the premier
emerging contemporary fine arts galleries in
Western North Carolina. |
Tim Murray's work encompasses a
wide range of media: drawings, paintings,
prints, and sculpture. They are linked by their
rhythmic qualities and their strength of color
and form. Frequently within a painting
there is a drawing; a piece of sculpture is, at
second glance, a drawing in wood/ceramic/metal. |
Judith
Duff Pottery -
My goal as a potter is to communicate my vision
through the strength of the form. I work to
create beautiful, functional pieces while
seeking individual avenues for self-expression. |
Mud Dabbers - The Mud Dabbers' name was
inspired by the dirt dabbers, insects who build
their nests from mud. The smiling Mud Dabber logo, drawn by
son John at age 12, symbolizes the joy and
happiness the family hopes will be yours in the
sharing of their craft. |
Red Wolf Gallery - Regional painters and
other local artists showing and selling in
a gallery located in the heart of downtown Brevard.
