Blueridge National Heritage Area Established by Congress in November 2003, the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area recognizes and celebrates the natural abundance and richly varied cultural history of the North Carolina mountains. The heritage area includes a map and information about designated waterfalls, Cherokee Heritage, Parks and public places, historic sites and historic small towns and cities.

511 Information Line  The North Carolina Department of Transportation provides travelers an automated voice response system, which means callers are guided through a menu with a series of requests. Callers can ask for specific areas, and the system will provide information about traffic incidents, closures and other important roadway conditions. Just dial 511 from any phone.

NC Welcome Centers in the Mountains
The official North Carolina Welcome Centers, located along the state's borders,  are well supplied with brochures, maps and friendly knowledgeable folks ready to help. All Centers are open from 8 AM to 5 PM daily, excluding Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Day, New Year's Day. Be sure to stop in as you cross the border and take advantage of all they have to offer NC visitors.
I-26 East Welcome Center
Location:  I-26 at Mile Marker 68, Columbus, NC - westbound from SC
Facilities:  Car and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 1979 and was renovated in 2005. Parking
I-26 West Welcome Center
Location:   I-40 at Mile Marker 10, Waynesville, NC - eastbound from Tennessee
Facilities:  Car, trailer and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 2003.
I-40 West Welcome Center
Location:   I-26 at Mile Marker 6, Mars Hill, NC - East from Tennessee
Facilities:  Car, trailer and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 1971 and was renovated in 1995.
I-77 South Welcome Center
Location:   I-77 at Mile Marker 1, Charlotte, NC - north of South Carolina
Facilities:  Car, trailer and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 1985 and was partially renovated in 2009.
I-77 North Welcome Center
Location:   I-77 at Mile Marker 105, Dobson, NC - southbound from Virginia
Facilities:  Car, trailer and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 1978 and was partially renovated in 1997
I-85 South Welcome Center
Location:   I-85 at Mile Marker 2, Kings Mountain, NC - northbound from SC
Facilities:  Car, trailer and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 1954 and was partially renovated in 2004.
I-85 North Welcome Center
Location:   I-85 at Mile Marker 23, Norlina, NC - southbound from Virginia
Facilities:  Car, trailer and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 1968 and was partially renovated in 2000.  
I-95 South Welcome Center
Location:   I-95 at Mile Marker 5, Rowland, NC - northbound from SC
Facilities:  Car, trailer and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 1973 and was renovated in 1999.
I-95 North Welcome Center
Location:   1 I-95 Southbound Hwy, Pleasant Hill, NC - southbound from Virginia
Facilities:  Car, trailer and truck parking, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor grill, vending machines, trash and recycling disposal, pay phone, accessible.
The Center opened in 1968 and was renovated in 1995.
